Dinner

Well we just came back from an absolutely fantastic dinner with a pom called James and an Aussie lass called Sal. Both are in their early 30s but I thought they were in their early to mid 20s. They are both top quality people and we talked non-stop for 3-4 hours, with such wide-ranging subjects including work, holidays, and sporting injuries.

I also got reminded of the last scene in The Blair Witch Project when the people are all facing into the corner of the room... it's sending a shiver up my spine right now. Ugh.

Had an epic shopping expedition today after paddling. I perked up after my post-kayaking somnolence with a yummy white choc mocha and was bouncing around like the Duracell bunny again. I still have a tremor and I had the coffee 10 hours ago.

We needed to buy petrol for our MSR stove, cos apparently kero is actually dirtier and not as efficient as petrol, and it's impossible to find kero or white gas in Lhasa anyways. So we had to walk for an age to find the petrol station which the locals assured us was "only just around the corner" and when we got there the dude almost blew up the jerry can when filling it up.

Then we spilt petrol all over the hotel balcony floor when trying to decant the stuff through a sock (apparently there's lots of gunk in the petrol here) via a home-made funnel consisting of cardboard and electrical tape. My hands still smell like petrol. I used to like the smell of petrol when I was a kid; luckily it was only a short-lived thing cos we got a huge whiff of it today and I don't think I enjoyed it at all.

Hey there was a domestic upstairs... heard lots of screaming and shouting, and stuff being thrown about. There's a peanut gallery gathering in the couryard.

Shut-up Marcus.
